I come with betrayal written in my DNA, he calls me not betrayer, but beloved, and adopts me as his own.
I come clothed in all manner of filth and sins that defile, he bends low to wash me whiter than snow and gives me his own robe of righteousness to wear.
I am faced with temptations that seem beyond what I can bear, yet he lends me his strength to resist and provides for me the way out.
Everything I touch seems to wither and die and my good works are like the grass in the field that is here today and gone tomorrow – he plants a seed of faith in my heart and waters it with the Spirit and the Word to produce a glorious planting for the display of his splendor.
I have no weapons with which to defend myself, so he fastens his own armor on me and stands before, behind, and all around me in the fray.
I find it altogether too easy to believe the whispers and the lies I have heard all of my life, but he exposes them for what they are, and he calls me forth to walk in the light and the knowledge of his truth.
I have nothing with which to commend myself to him, yet when he lifts me up from the pit of despair in which I have made my bed, I find a king’s ransom has been paid for me.
I come frail, weak, and struggling to understand, he bids me soar with him on eagles’ wings and to look with him into the deepest mysteries of all.
And the good news, the best news, is that if it is true for me, it is true for you.
Everything I have ever longed for – love, acceptance, belonging, freedom, faith, hope, strength to resist temptation, life everlasting – I have found in him.
And what did I bring him, poor as I was – absolutely nothing.
But he.
But he gave up everything in order to give me everything.
This is the great exchange.
My Jesus, my Savior
Lord there is none like You
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You
Shout to the Lord all the Earth, let
us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your
hand
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have
In You
My Jesus, my Saviour
Lord there is none like You
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
