…but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
1 John 1:7-9
Multi-tasking. Anybody else try to do two things at once, or too many things at once? Not me.
Just kidding. I’m the queen of juggling. But, I’m even better at dropping the balls. Just yesterday I went to brush my teeth. As I turned around I realized I hadn’t made my bed so I proceeded to make my bed with my toothbrush hanging out of my mouth. And then as I picked the pillows up off the floor I saw that my curtains needed to be raised. So I did ALL this while brushing my teeth. Amazing!
The truth is, there was no brushing going on at all. I was simply doing other things with a toothbrush stuck in my mouth, doing me no good at all. My teeth were no cleaner when I finished making my bed than when I started.
Isn’t that how we view living the Christian life? If I walk around with my Bible and journal and pray – hey, I’m getting it done. Multi-tasking my relationship with God with all the other demands and to-dos. But, have I really spent time with my loving heavenly Father or just pretended to?
Just like walking around with a toothbrush in my mouth doesn’t clean my teeth, looking the part doesn’t make me a child of God. So I brush my teeth, that’s good, right? My breath is fresh, my teeth are white, there’s no spinach hanging between them.
Not really. We all know that to really have clean teeth, the ones you want to keep, we have to visit the dentist regularly so that they can get off the plaque that we can’t see; the stuff in between the teeth. So it is with life. We can be good, live a good life and do all the “right” Christian things, but if we haven’t been to Jesus for a true heart cleansing we’re fighting a losing battle.
Jesus is the only one who can remove the invisible plaque of sin that plagues our hearts. We have to put our faith in Him and what He did when He died on the cross for us. His blood is the only thing that will wash away our sins and give us new life, life that will last forever.
With Jesus there is no multi-tasking because He does it all for us. Our one job is to run to Him.
His servant and yours,
Paula Nelson
