“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Psalm 139:13-14
Did you know that our bodies are made up of almost 70% water?
According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%. … The unique qualities and properties of water are what make it so important and basic to life. –The USGS Water Science School
Water is of major importance to all living things. Even 70% of the earth is covered with water.
The most basic structure of life is found in a cell. The cells in our bodies are full of water. The Bible says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. God knit us together, one cell at a time in our mother’s womb. He crafted each one of us with His own hand and made us of His own material. We are each uniquely made to bear the image of our Creator.
As we grow we realize our bodies, mind and spirits crave connection with our Maker. Built into our physical and spiritual DNA is the desire to know our Creator in a real and personal way.
God knows each one of us intimately and desires for us to know Him just as well. That is why He has given us His Word, the Bible. It is the tool He has given us to know Him and understand His character.
The building blocks of our life and salvation are found in His Word. Listen how He explains the basic building blocks of life – water, wells and fountains – and what happens when we forsake it.
For with you is the fountain of life…. Psalm 36:9
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. Isaiah 12:3
Lord, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water. Jeremiah 17:13
On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. Zechariah 13:1
Jesus is the fountain of life and offers all of us living water. “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:14 He cried out saying “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.“ He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
From our innermost being, our basic cell, made in His image will flow living water!
We live in a messy world. The perfect cells that He knit together in our mother’s womb have been contaminated with sin and impurity. They will never be what God intended them to be without the infusion of the pure Living Water that only comes through Christ. As Zechariah foretold, the fountain has been opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity when Jesus died on the cross. When you put your faith in Jesus and turn to Him in repentance, His Living Water renews and regenerates your old self (and cells) into the new one you were originally created to be in the image of the One who created you! He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it.
