The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves, he will take great delight in you…and will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
‘Tis the season.
So hum Julie Andrews’ tune “These are a few of my favorite things.’
But try these words. These are a few of my thankful things.
What would be in your thankful things song?
Hot tea with warm bread and butter
White twinkle lights
Books with well placed words
Puzzles with no missing pieces
All of those can be done with someone else. ‘Tis the season for being together.
Books you say? My favorite time of the week is my book reading date with my husband. We read a chapter in a book on our own and then talk about the chapter. I know, so nerdy! But I’m thankful for the insights others have given us, the challenges that bring curiosity, the delight in discovering a new author or place we want to visit.
This week has an opportunity for favorite things, delight-filled (maybe a challenge) moments. Celebrate the reunions, the nerdy things your clan will do, the sensory overload. Share the cup of cozy, sparkling candle lights, new books read to curious littles, or the ongoing puzzle work. Be still in the room that is full and just hum your thank things song. Embrace the realities that some spaces will not be filled with special ones but lean into the memories of past embraces. Hum your thankfulness even with the tear attached to it.
And remember: The Lord your God is with you…and rejoices over you with humming!
