But as it is written, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
The children in our family all received jigsaw puzzles for Christmas. Most of them were 1000 pieces. It’s been a long time since I’ve tried to put a puzzle together, but since my sweet niece decided that the coffee table would be the perfect place for a puzzle, we all became engrossed in trying to put all the pieces together.
This particular puzzle was mostly black and white with just a few splashes of color for emphasis. After finding all the edge pieces and putting them together we searched for the colorful pieces next. Those were the easy parts since they comprised about 100 pieces. The real challenge came when we were left with 900 black and white pieces to try to connect to make the picture match the one on the box.
It was a test of patience for sure. When we left my mom’s house, the puzzle was still incomplete.
Our lives are like a puzzle. God patiently puts all the pieces together for His glory and our benefit. While it’s exciting to experience the colorful events in life – Christmas, a wedding, a new baby, graduation, or a new job, many days appear to be painted in black and white. They seem mundane and repetitive, but when put together according to God’s design, they make up the beautiful picture of our life.
But our life’s puzzle isn’t all God is putting together. Simultaneously he is linking my story with your story to make His story. The pieces of our lives fit together not for our own good or glory but for the beauty of the whole. It’s not just about me. It’s not just about you. It’s about all of us and how God weaves our lives intricately together for His glory. Every day ordained for me was written in His book before one of them came to be. Every day ordained for you was too. The colorful, the dark, the gray the bright. All the pieces of our lives, all of our days fit together to the praise of and for the glory of our great God. Whatever kind of day you are having, know that God sees the big picture and He is patiently putting every piece of your life together to make the most beautiful picture. One day you will be able to see what He sees. Until then we hope for what we cannot see and trust in the one whose promises are true.
