In Him we live and move and have our being.
Acts 17:28.
Several years ago, a devastating tornado wrecked my mother’s Alabama yard. It was unrecognizable! Since the storm, Mom has lovingly, intentionally worked to create spaces that are delightful. Living in Honolulu doesn’t allow me to just run over and enjoy time with Mom or help her work in her garden. But the time between the visits always reveals the transformation that is evident with each visit. This summer’s trip provided a breathtaking view and magical moments. The birds and one bunny relish this spot. Varieties of flowers, growing summer vegetables, and fresh blueberries from the bush not only inspired me then but challenged new hopes and ideas for my own small patch of Hawaiian garden.
How impatient I am at times wanting “to buy” the beauty of a yard from an already blooming hanging basket or flowering plant. How much I want the beauty without the thoughtful, working process. This is also a picture of my walk with Jesus. Becoming like Him, experiencing the fruit of the Spirit is not something I can buy or plant one day and see bloom the next. This is the transforming work of God our Creator and Sustainer in all our lives. Ponder the lavish love of God who will one day restore His perfect creation. And extend it to your own heart. Invite the Master Gardener to work in and through you, a display of His glory. He who began a good work in you will complete it. (Philippians 1:6.) Trust His Sweet work in you all for His glory.
