“God remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations.” 1 Chronicles 16:15
It’s that time of the year when school yearbooks arrive.
Those books filled with school pictures of faces that have aged since the beginning of the year school pictures. The scenes of classmates, teams, teachers, activities, clubs, celebrations…school life! Writing end of the year notes and laughing at goofy things.
It’s all fresh for students this year. But if you are like me, you have a few years in the bank since your last high school yearbook signing. We have memories – awkward, fun, tender, and treasured.
To remember is to keep in mind, to recall. The good, the bad, the ugly. Sometimes memories aren’t recalled the same way. Some aren’t remembered at all. There is joy, grief, pain, tenderness, delight in memories.
Did you know the word remember is found about 252 times in the Bible?
Did you know that remember is a command that is most repeated in Scripture?
Can you think of the one commandment of the Ten that starts with “Remember?”
God has a yearbook that is full of memories from the past but also what He is doing now and what He promises to do in the future. The God who never forgets us is also the God who remembers our forgiven sin no more. (Jeremiah 31:34) The God who rescued then, rescues now.
Our God tells his people over and over to remember who He is, what He has done, and who we are. When we forget, we can’t live our best life. Celebrate today a remembrance of God from long ago and give thanks. Create a new memory with Jesus today.
