“I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.” Psalm 34:1-3
We are broken, He is not.
“Praise the Lord for He is good.”
I had this sign in my kitchen. It fit perfectly on the molding above our back door.
For years it was a reminder to my family as we came and went, or gathered around the table that God is good and deserving of our praise.
Since it fit perfectly on the molding above the door and I am lazy, it was never attached to the wall properly – it just sat there. It just sat there until the door was slammed and then it fell. It didn’t fall to pieces, but it did break. The “P” in praise snapped off completely and my sign said, “Raise the Lord for He is good”.
So, I propped the “P” back in place and put it back above the door. This time as a reminder that even in our brokenness we can still Praise the Lord. HE IS GOOD – all the time. ALL THE TIME – He is good.
There are times in our lives when we really experience the true meaning of our brokenness – to the depths; broken marriages, broken homes, broken families, broken hearts, broken promises, broken bones… sometimes our brokenness is simply one letter, like the “P” in Praise. But other times, our entire world falls apart. One thing after another like an avalanche or domino effect and our sign comes crashing to the ground. And we end up in a heap of a mess on the floor.
Jesus came to rescue us from ourselves, our sin, and our brokenness. While we are sitting in the middle of the floor with the broken pieces of our life all around us, Jesus is there. And with His nail scarred hands He is picking up the pieces of your shattered life and heart and putting them back together. He sees you and He is with you in the hardest of places. He will never leave you or abandon you no matter what. Whether your brokenness is self-inflicted thanks to our sin-nature or you are feeling crushed from the outside – thanks to others’ sin nature, Jesus came to heal and restore you, pick up the pieces and hold you together (in Him all things hold together Colossians 1:17).
My sign has now fallen many times, is cracked in two, and will no longer even stay on the door molding. For now it sits on my desk reminding me that until our praise is unbroken around His throne, I will continue to “Raise the Lord for He is good.”
Take some time today to read all of Psalm 34. Listen to Matt Redmon’s Unbroken Praise.
Praise the Lord!
